just a thought.

I am reading angels and demons. its so nice. They mentioned things that I’ve been pondering about for a long time na. the things they say are so true, at least to me especially—

religion is like language or dress. we gravitate toward the pieces with which we were raised. in the end, though, we are all proclaiming the same thing. that life has meaning. That we are grateful for the power that created us.

and--holy scripture is stories-- legends and history of man's quest to understand his own meaning.

why do I agree? Sometimes when I end up thinking about religion, faith, God, and countless “why” ’s, it all comes down to one thing. God is real. In the catholic faith, the bible IS actually like a book of history. People like ourselves chose what to put in it. Like history books now, it has a natural tendency to be biased according to what the authors think. I am ok with that, but I think it tells us that we should not take stories in the bible too literally.

The thing about religion is it’s like different people’s point of views on how they should live our lives best for God, in goodness. Different people just take to different styles. When you compare the ancient religions, they are basically leaning towards the same values. they just have different ways and beliefs to living those values, according to the people’s lifestyles.

Take Confucianism, Taoism, Shintoism, and Zoroastrianism. (Asian history!!) though they are not so common now, if you look at some of their beliefs it is similar to what we Catholics believe in. they basically teach about living in harmony, being honest, love, virtue, etc. And those religions were founded way before Christianity.

In the bible, they say how Moses and the Israelites defeated some ancient tribe and lived there in the promised land. God didn’t directly write the bible, did he? Man just interpreted God, from his point of view. If we take it too literally, it’s like it is telling us that God only loves the Israelites then so he got land from other people and gave it to the Israelites as the promised land.

I am not about to convert from being a catholic or anything, but I’m just saying that we should look beyond the stories—or history and look for the real meaning. We will never really know the answers to countless questions of why, how, etc. that will keep multiplying to more questions in our lifetime. But then, we don’t really need to know. We have to live our lives to the fullest. With harmony. Peace. Free from the horrors of war.

You might be thinking I suddenly got extremely religious. It’s just I always end up thinking like “what if we took out all science and religion, where would that leave us?”( I actually agree that science in some ways, are actually like God’s universal laws. Like harmony in the physical is like physics, etc.) these things just get me thinking too much sometimes.
